What is actually possible with Cute Magick?

Build meaningful websites with server-side power: personal sites, guestbooks, generators, form handlers, APIs, simple CMSes, blogs, or resource libraries. If it runs on the web, you can build it. Perfect for small projects, experiments, tools for friends, or learning how backends actually work. Suitable for most websites online today—see next question on technical limitations.

Are there any technical limitations?

Yes, by design. Cute Magick sites are intended for bursts of 5 to 10 visitors at the same time, and up to tens of thousands of visitors per day. Cute Magick's per-request runtime powering the programming languages does not support queues, WebSockets, or background jobs. These constraints free you from designing for scale that rarely happens. And if you do reach that point, congratulations, you've outgrown managed hosting!

What does "time travel" mean?

Every file change is automatically snapshotted. You can rewind to any previous moment of your site, preview past sites, or bookmark versions. Nothing is ever lost. Break something? Rewind. Want to try a wild experiment? Branch off. In the background, we use Git, an established, open source version control system. It runs invisibly under the hood—your site is safe.

Who owns my data?

You do. Files live on disk as plain text. Export everything with one click. No lock-in, no proprietary formats. If Cute Magick vanished tomorrow, you keep your code—it's just files and history.

Should I self-host?

If you're comfortable with Docker, self-hosting is encouraged. Self-hosting gives full control—managed hosting is available here if you want to focus on creating rather than infrastructure. There is a $1/month plan and $100 one-time. Either way, your sites are portable.

Because technology can be joyful, and making things yourself and trying new things matters. This is about wielding powerful magic you can understand, infrastructure that supports your creativity, and leaving your mark.
